No, Spirit is a rescue pony and due to health reason he cannot be ridden. If you would like him saddled or have a saddle in the picture we can accommodate that.
If you would like to have a small child sit on him for pictures that is fine but a parent or guardian has to be holding the child and then photo shopped out of the photo.

The Mustang Recovery Challenge: A Journey of Healing and Transformation
The Mustang Recovery Challenge is an inspiring initiative that brings together people in recovery from addiction with the untamed spirit of Mustangs. This unique program, designed for those currently in a recovery addiction program or within the last two years, offers a transformative experience through the power of horsemanship. Led by veteran horse trainer and Drug and Alcohol Counselor James Barnes, this challenge aims to provide participants with a chance to not only train Mustangs but also compete at local and/or regional horse shows.
The Challenge: Three individual teams along with sponsors will have the opportunity to adopt a Mustang and embark on a journey of training and connection.
The Mentor: James Barnes, a seasoned veteran horse trainer and Drug and Alcohol Counselor, serves as the mentor and coach for the participants. With a wealth of experience in both horsemanship and addiction counseling, Barnes brings a unique blend of skills to guide individuals through the challenges of training Mustangs and navigating their recovery journey. His role goes beyond training horses; it extends to offering support, encouragement, and valuable insights to foster personal growth.
The Mustang Recovery Challenge not only provides a platform for individuals in recovery to showcase their newfound skills and accomplishments but also breaks down stigmas surrounding addiction. By combining the worlds of horsemanship and recovery, this initiative highlights the potential for transformation and growth for human and horse, empowering participants to rewrite their stories and inspire others facing similar challenges.
As The Mustang Recovery Challenge unfolds, it weaves together the threads of recovery, horsemanship, and the pursuit of a brighter future. Through the guidance of horseman and the partnership with these untamed Mustangs, participants are not only vying for a chance to win substantial rewards but are also embarking on a profound journey of self-discovery, healing, and resilience. The fusion of these elements creates an opportunity for lasting change, reinforcing the belief that with determination and support, individuals in recovery can overcome challenges and embrace a new chapter in their lives.
The government is addressing the overpopulation of wild horses by encouraging adoption. The wild horse population in America is estimated at 88,000, exceeding the sustainable limit of 27,000 for the available land. Annual roundups are hosted to manage issues such as overgrazed land and starving horses. This year for the Mustang Recovery Challenge, we chose to help locally by adopting some horses from the Fort Hall Reservation.
Horses have long been recognized for their therapeutic qualities, offering a mirror to human emotions and providing a non-judgmental space for individuals to explore themselves. The Mustang Recovery Challenge harnesses this healing power, allowing participants to develop empathy, patience, and resilience through their interactions with these majestic creatures. The process of training a Mustang becomes a metaphor for the recovery journey, emphasizing the importance of trust, communication, and mutual understanding.
We have just finished up the 2024 year! All mustangs have been rehomed to wonderful homes and the participants who finished the program have all said how life-changing this program has been for them!
The Mustang Recovery Challenge can't do this program for the community without the support of numerous fundraisers a year.
The staff would like to thank you for your contribution to this fundraiser and for helping our community!
